I practice a holistic approach to health and wellness, which means that I look at how all areas of your life are connected. Here we will be looking at my healthy approach and how we work together. Does stress at your job or in your relationship cause you to overeat? Does lack of sleep or low energy prevent you from exercising? As we work together, we will look at how all parts of your life affect your health as a whole.
My approach is not to concentrate on calories, carbs, fats, and proteins. It is not to create lists of constraints on good and bad foods. Instead, I work with my clients to create a happy, healthy life in a way that is flexible, fun and fulfilling.
We will work together to reach your health goals in areas such as attaining your optimal weight, reducing your food cravings, improving your sleep, and boosting your energy. During our sessions we will work exploring the food and lifestyle choices that work best for you which once implemented will provide lasting changes to your overall health and wellbeing.
Together, we will look at the whole picture of your health and follow the concepts of the Institute of Integrative Nutrition to achieve this.
The 3 main concepts to my healthy approach are :-
1. Bio – Individuality
This means that each person is an individual so everyone ways of achieving optimal health will be unique to them. What work well for me may not work well for you, so one person’s food is another person’s poison. This is why the well know ‘diets’ tend to fail in the long run as they do not look at you as an individual. The fad diet, shake portions and pills tempt us as we want to achieve our desired goals. Many of these diets work in the short term, however, because they often make you feel deprived it is all too easy to fall off the plan, you start to go back to your old habits resulting in the weight piling back on (and more).
The fad diet company has you as a repeat customer and you feel worse about yourself. Also many of the fad diet plans do not encourage you to improve your health.
They recommend their ready-made meals, packaged foods and drinks which are full of preservatives, additives and toxic ingredients which leave you undernourished and cause inflammation within your body. Inflammation can lead to ill health and disease. In my opinion being the healthiest version of yourself is so much more important than just being slim. Once your body is nourished with good food and water it will naturally become balanced and will reward you by losing the excess weight, give you glowing skin, endless energy and good health.
I will support you to have great success as I use a personalised, holistic approach based on your unique needs, ancestral background and life preferences.
2. Primary Foods
The primary foods refers to all of the other factors which are present in our daily lives so not just what we eat but everything that is not on your plate. These factors are often overlooked but they are crucially important as they contribute to our sense of nourishment and fulfillment.
- Healthy relationships
- a fulfilling career
- regular physical activity
- spiritual awareness
When these “primary foods” are balanced, what you eat becomes secondary. I will support you in achieving all of your goals, from eating the right foods for your body to living an inspired, fulfilling life.
3. Integrative Nutrition Plate
I follow the Integrative Nutrition Plate which accentuates the importance of local and organic produce, whole grains, high-quality proteins, plant-based fats, and water. It shows you how a plate should appear at mealtime and emphasizes the importance of proportions and portion size. To complete the picture, the plate is surrounded with lifestyle factors that create optimal health:
relationship, career, physical activity and spirituality.
I’ll introduce you to some of the healthiest foods on the planet and teach you how to find what’s healthiest for your unique self!
My interest in preventative health led me to study with the Institute of Functional medicine which has equipped me with skills to assess the health of a whole person as opposed to the traditional model of looking at symptoms in isolation. Ill health is your bodies way of telling you that there is some disease in your body. By addressing the underlying causes of disease it is possible to bring balance back into the body and remove the need to rely on pharmaceutical drugs which often mask the symptoms and do not address the cause of the disease. It is a patient-centered approach which I believe it is the future of medicine and will change the current disease-centered focus.
